I have a question on an Allstate Auto Claim?
My truck was recently broken in to in a parking lot. They took my stereo, Sub Woofer, CD's, and a laptop that is property of my work. They damaged the outside lock on the driver door. What do I do now? I called the insurance company but they said something about $500 for my vehicle insurance and whatever was inside was covered under my homeowners which the deductible is over $1000. Is this correct? I'd have to pay both?
You don't pay your deductible to the insurance company - basically the insurance company will cut you a check for the amount of the damages, less your deductible.
As for your auto and homeowners deductibles/claims.
Auto - will cover the damaged door lock/door, and anything attached to the vehicle - stereo, subwoofer.
Homeowner's coverage - will cover anything not attached - CD's, laptop. Now, your coverages will have limits - so it may not be wise to file the homeowner's claim, and yes your deductible will be applicable.
What you should do abou the laptop - is talk to your employer - see if they have insurance for this type of protection - so you don't have to pay out of your pocket for the laptop.
