Does renters insurance cover items in my vehicle?
I have renters and auto insurance thru State Farm. I heard that my "high crime" items (cds, computers, etc) are not covered if they are stolen from my car and that my laptop wouldn't be covered if it was stolen while out of my townhouse. Is there any truth to this? I would hate to purchase extra insurance if it isn't needed.
Who did you "hear" from? Was it your agent? Your AGent will have the exact answer.

Usually there's a limitation to media used in cars - like cd's. And anything powered by the car - like a gps or removable stereo system - isn't covered on the renters policy.

Unless your laptop is used for work, it SHOULD be covered under your renters policy, but maybe your renters policy has a LIMITATION for theft outside your apartment, for unattended items.

YOUR AGENT is the person to ask - unless you feel like sitting down and reading your policy.
