Do you support sexual discrimination?
After graduating college I purchased a new truck. It was a v6. The payment on the car each month was 228$. I lived in a rural area and shopped around for minimum full coverage insurance. The best I could find was 330$ a month. My driving record was perfect. No wrecks or tickets in the 6 years that I had been licensed. None. Shortly thereafter I interviewed with a Political Action Committee which informed me that the higher premiums I was paying for car insurance had no statistical basis. I was simply paying so much for insurance because I am a man. Now I read articles on the internet that say that your astrological sign is more strongly related to your likelihood of having an accident. Notice they are legit research by big companies. The auto insurance industry deals in sexual discrimination.

Since you did not say where you live or your age (just graduated from college could mean 15-18) so I will just have to address your question in generalities.
In my years as an insurance agent, it is very common for a newly licensed driver to have an accident within the first 18 months of driving. It might be minor, it might be a fatality. You can normally find the statistics if that's what you want by looking on NHTSA websites and others.
The 16-21 year old single male, as a group, has the highest incident rate, both frequency and severity. This is followed by the 16-21 single female. Historically, it would probably go back to the days of chivalry - when typically, a guy would pick up his girlfriend and he would do all the driving - but that single female incident rate is climbing as more single females are getting their own car, coupled with the female letting their young boyfriend drive or race her car....speaking only experience here, NOT trying to be chauvanistic.
So, as you get older the rates will decrease until the point you get to the 70 range, when typically, the rates will start going up, underwriting gets harder to re-write older folks. It's NOT age discrimination - just that as we get older, reaction time is longer, vision is less, mental capacity may lessen - just to name a few.
So, the best thing you can do is NOT accept the rate that you are currently paying. Look around in your LOCAL area and find an INDEPENDENT insurance agent to help you with your insurance needs. Just look in your local phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and give one (or more) of them a call. You will find a professional agent that will be able to help you get the coverages that are impoprtant for you and at a price that you can live with. An independent agent will have the advantage over a "one company agent" as he will have normally a dozen different companies to choose from and will be able to show you the strengths and weaknesses of each one.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
